EP 010 – Speak your ideas into reality

Want to boost your productivity so you can get out and have more fun?

If you’re anything like me you have countless ideas and inspirations whizzing through your brain at the most inconvenient times throughout the day.

This is where voice notes are super handy, and even more so when they transcribe your words into text before your very eyes!

Today’s quick tip AND tool episode is about speaking your ideas into reality using Otter, the AI voice recording app that magically writes your words down as you talk.

TRANSCRIPT

Hey there, and welcome to the Fun Business Fun Money Podcast!

As you may already know, this podcast is a mix of short tips, tool or tactic episodes, and more in depth coaching episodes where we dive into a bit more detail on a particular theme.

Today is a quick tip AND a tool that I can honestly say has been life changing for me and my productivity.

The multi-tasking life…

I love to listen to podcasts and audiobooks, they’re a great way to maximise my time while I’m driving, walking or doing stuff around the house.

I ALWAYS have ideas and inspiration popping into my head as I listen. It could be a quote that feels like a lightning bolt of awesomeness, or a concept that triggers a whole bunch of thoughts for me.

BUT… how on earth do you CAPTURE those ideas when you’re on the go?

I used to be that person who would suddenly stop walking so I could quickly type a note. I’d always step to the side if I was in a busy area so as not to hold anyone up, don’t you hate it when people do that??

My productivity game changer!

It was only a year or two ago that I discovered Otter, the voice recording app that transcribes into text as you talk.

What I love about it is its accuracy.

I don’t have any voice assist devices in my house like Alexa or Google, I rarely talk to Siri on my iPhone. Why? Because it takes longer to train the AI to understand my hybrid Kiwi Aussie accent than it does to search it up or do it manually myself.

Believe it or not, I don’t always articulate my words well, so I get fed up with Siri saying “I’m sorry I don’t understand that.”

Bringing ideas to life with play and fun

That’s where Otter is different. And yes, its called Otter, as in the cute playful fun loving critter. Actual otters and I have that in common, we like to find the play and fun in every day things.

DISCLAIMER – I am in no way affiliated with Otter, they’re not sponsoring me, although if anyone from Otter happens to listen to this, heyyyyyyy! I’m a big fan of your work and I’m happy to spread the word!

There’s a free version and a paid version, which gives you more recording minutes and fewer restrictions, but the free version is more than enough for everything I’m doing.

What other uses are there?

If you’re someone who needs a transcript for client calls or you’re doing a LOT of it, then investing in the paid version is well worth it. You can link it to your Zoom account so it automatically transcribes notes for you.

Another situation I’m sure many of you can relate to is having brilliant ideas when you’re in the shower.

I’m not one for having my phone in the bathroom with me but I’ve started having the phone on the counter so I can quickly record a voice note as soon as I get out of the shower, to capture those thoughts in the moment.

Capture those ideas in the moment!

The important thing is that all of these ideas are being captured in the quickest, easiest, simplest way possible. And that for me is to talk. So in a nutshell, if you’re a talker then I highly recommend you check out Otter.

Got the idea recorded… NOW WHAT?

I don’t actually need the audio recording of my on the go notes to myself. I simply open the web version of Otter when I’m back at my laptop, export the text file and voila! I have a note of my thoughts that I can then use to build on, whether it’s right away, tomorrow, next week or even next year.

It’s a great way to maximise on your productivity because you’re not having to listen back to your voice notes and type or write out notes from that. It’s already done for you – WINNING!

So that’s my tip for today, if you’re sick of writing or typing out your notes all the time go check out Otter, it just might change your life and free up a LOT more time and energy so you can enjoy more of the good things in life.
