Hey there, and welcome to the Fun Business Fun Money podcast!
If you’re listening in real time its Tuesday 27th of June 2023, and if you’re just new here Tuesdays mean a new coaching episode, where we dive a little deeper into a specific topic around business, or money and having more fun with both.
Theres also a new episode every Thursday, a shorter tip, tool or tactic that you can implement immediately to help you in some way in your life, business or money.
If you’ve been listening for a while, or even just the last few episodes, you’ll know the Fun Business Fun Money podcast now has over 50 episodes for you to check out while you’re going about your day, doing your thing.
So as always, I want to give a big shout out to every single person who takes time to listen, whether its as each episode is released or sometime in the future, I appreciate you!
If you’re able to, grab your notebook and pen, and take notes, so you can take what you learn and implement it immediately in your life or business. If you’re on the go, walking, driving or some other activity, don’t do that!
I’ve got you covered there as well, you’ll find the link to the full transcript and show notes in the description of this episode so you can come back when you’re ready and get exactly what you need.
I’m a HUGE fan of implementation, even if its one tiny aspect of whatever you’re learning about yourself or your business. Put it into ACTION, preferably within 24 hours of learning it and you’ve got a far better chance of making it something you do every day.
That’s why this topic is The Power of REPETITION, boring but super effective.
And if you’ve been around me for a while you’ll have probably heard me talk about this on repeat! Its very closely related to CONSISTENCY, the two of them should really just hang out together and be besties because they’re one of the best combos for success in anything.
If you do something consistently, persistently and frequently, even if its one tiny action, you’ll end up way further ahead than someone who is taking big bold action on a sporadic or random schedule.
I have to say up front that repetition is NOT ACTUALLY BORING. It can be of course, but its really not when you see the impact it has over time. And there are ways to make it fun and interesting no matter what you’re doing.
The people who are hearing from you – I’m talking about your ideal clients that are out there waiting for you! – they don’t think its boring at all.
They need to hear things repeatedly, in different ways, before they’ll buy from you. I don’t know what the actual numbers are these days, its a lot more than it used to be so keep repeating things!
It doesn’t matter what it actually costs, if its a $10 product or a $5000 package, the principle is the same. Repetition is critical if people are going to take you seriously and buy from you.
Theres immense power in putting something on repeat, and it has everything to do with brain science.
Thats something I’ve been fascinated with since I picked up my first personal development book in 2014 – yes, it was that recent! Never mind that I absolutely hated the actual book, the details of the book really isn’t important, but the impact it had on my brain was something I wanted to experience over and over again.
There’s the saying “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks”, we know that’s completely wrong, my Grandad was still reading research papers and learning new things to expand his knowledge right up until he passed away at almost 95. He was the human version of Google!
The official term for this is NEUROPLASTICITY, meaning our brains are ‘plastic’ or malleable, its how we can rewire the connections in our brains to form new habits, new ways of thinking, and in the process we can become a different person. A better version of ourselves!
When we learn something new it can be like a mini explosion in our brains, I call them OMG moments because thats usually what I say! “O – M – G!” It literally breaks apart the old neural pathways in our brain, and forms new ones.
You can’t UNLEARN something you’ve just learnt because your brain is no longer the same as it was before.
So when we put that new information or thought on REPEAT, we can strengthen that new neural pathway and the thought or belief becomes a long term memory. Theres the brain science in a nutshell!
Thats why all those times you heard things like “We’re not made of money” and “If you don’t work hard, you haven’t earned it.” stick in your mind.
You’ve heard it often enough, your brain has wired itself to believe whatever it is, and thats how you think. Thats how the repetition of a message influences us as thinking and feeling human beings.
And thats why its so important to have your message on point – what do you want people to remember about you?
If someone THEY know was to say “Do you know any web designers, or a business coach, or a copywriter that would be a good fit for me?” you want EVERYONE to be able to say “YES! I know this person, they’re awesome, let me put you in touch!”
I actually came up with at least 9 different angles for this as I was writing my notes for this episode, but I’ve focused in on 4 simple but powerful things you should be talking about or doing ON REPEAT.
Lets get into them!
YOUR PERSONAL BRAND
Who are you?
Get clear on your personal brand. And I don’t mean logos or colours, your personal brand is SO much more than that!
Its the words you use, your personality, your style, your vibe, your energy, your values, your message. Your personal brand filters through in absolutely everything you do. It plays a part in how you position yourself in the online crowd so people see you, hear you AND know exactly what you do.
I have no doubt that when you think of me there will be things like positive energy, simplicity, possibilities, business and money growth. One of my friends associates me with sunshine, which I love!
You know what to expect when I post something on social media because theres a consistency and repetition to the things I talk about, whether its written, on video or on a podcast.
Theres nothing more confusing to people than someone who constantly changes direction in their business, with their offers, or their message simply because they’re trying to be everything to everyone.
If you’re being vague and fluffy when you talk about who you are and what you do, you’re a ‘nice to know’.
This is why its critical to show up as the real you everywhere, all the time – ON REPEAT.
If you’re having to put on a persona because you think you have to be like everyone else in the same field, you’re going to struggle.
The magic is in STANDING OUT, and doing that repeatedly until people take notice BECAUSE you’re different to the rest.
They need to see your personal brand in everything you do, they embed this image in their minds that THIS is the person who can help me solve my problem.
YOUR POSITION
Your position is made up of your niche – the type of people or businesses you work with – AND your specialty – the work you do, your expertise.
What are you ultimately telling people about your positioning?
At the start of every episode is an introduction telling you what this podcast is about, who its for and who I am.
Every episode tells you I’m the FUN Business and Money Coach, I tell you who I work with and how I help them solve their problem.
Thats not just an introduction for people who are new in my world, I’m also solidifying it in everyone’s subconscious mind by having a consistent and repeated message.
If you don’t feel clear and confident about your message within yourself, its really hard for anyone else to understand it either.
Lets say you’re a copywriter but you’re not feeling confident enough to niche to a specific industry, type of client or type of work, you’re being too vague. Its not clear what you’re about and people don’t know what to expect from you, other than you write words.
You can’t establish yourself as an expert in anything if you don’t have a clear message.
Thats not to say you can’t be a copywriter who writes words for everyone, but you need to accept that its a lot harder for people to recommend you.
What do you want to be known for? Whats YOUR message that people see or hear when they come across you?
It should be a couple of sentences that clearly articulate who you are and the magic you create with your work.
Once you’ve got that clear in your own mind, you can put it on repeat. Bring it into everything you do, you can talk about it in 1000 different ways that has people nodding along and saying “I really like her, she knows her stuff, and I know exactly how she can solve my problem.”
You. Become. The. Go. To. Person!
BUILD RELATIONSHIPS AND CONNECTIONS
This one should be obvious, but its obviously overlooked by all the people who send cold DMs pitching their offers without getting to know a single thing about you! How annoying!
That doesn’t mean you should flat out ignore all your new connections, I mean you wouldn’t just ignore someone in person would you, because thats just plain AWKWARD! 😬
Take the lead and send a DM to a new connection with the single intention of saying hello, its not about moving things along on a particular schedule. No questions about their life goals or dreams, no leading the conversation in a way so you can pounce and make your offer.
Just send a DM and say something like…
“Hey Sarah! Thanks for accepting my request, just wanted to say hello! I look forward to seeing what you share on LinkedIn” or whatever platform it happens to be.
Thats it.
You’re basically saying “Hey there fellow human, I’m a human too! Lets just be aware of each other and scope out if you’re fun and interesting enough to take this further.”
I had exactly that kind of conversation with someone a few years back. I had no idea what she did, but I’d seen her in a Facebook group and she seemed interesting. We connected, said hello and THATS IT until a few months later.
Thats when I REACHED OUT TO HER to ask about the offer she’d been talking about on Facebook. I ended up saying yes to her high ticket offer and loved everything about it. And it all started with “Hello! Nice to meet you.” That was it.
Build relationships and connections, be a human with other humans and put it on repeat.
SHARE WHAT YOU KNOW AND MAKE OFFERS
This is kind of a BONUS thing you can put on repeat.
I don’t mean sliding into someone’s DMs with a cold offer, just share your valuable knowledge with the world and tell them how they can work with you.
Easy peasy!
So simple!
What it means is you’ve got to keep showing up and share your expertise on a particular topic in all the different variations so you establish yourself as the expert in everyone’s minds.
And don’t forget to make offers as well, along with those valuable insights! Tell people what they can buy from you and where they can get it.
Make your offers and people WILL buy from you because you’ve already made it clear how you help them.
Marketing isn’t all about ads, thats a tool or method to reach a targeted audience.
Marketing is all of the previous points I’ve mentioned:
- Tell people who you are
- Specialise within your niche so its clear what you do and who its for
- Build relationships and connections
- Share what you know and make offers
It doesn’t have to be any more complicated than that.
Put a few key themes on repeat and the right people, your ideal clients, will FEEL IT in your words that you’re the expert who can help them, and they will happily pay you money to get that help.
This is you, me, one on one, working on your business for 6 to 12 months and setting you up with a solid foundation to grow and scale your income and your business from solopreneur to working with a team or leading an agency, if thats your goal.
We do an audit of your business right at the start to see where you can streamline and simplify things, whats working and whats not.
Every step of the way I’m there help you with strategy and implementation so you never feel like you’re having to figure everything out on your own.
Thats what I have for you today, I hope that helps inspire some ideas for you about what you can do to position yourself as the expert in your field, whatever it may be, by getting clarity on a few simple things and putting them on REPEAT.
As the old Pantene shampoo ad said, “It won’t happen overnight but it will happen.” Anything worth having WILL take time and energy, and I can assure you this foundation work is worth putting in the effort.
Take care, have fun repeating yourself all over the place, and I’ll catch you in the next episode!
