EPISODE 106 – The Great Letting-Go: Fire up fresh energy in 2024

Life is too short for bad coffee, crappy friends and anything that doesn’t make you happy – especially when it comes to your business.

As everyone checks in for the fun ride ahead in 2024, let’s do a quick check to fire up fresh energy and make sure we’re only bringing the good stuff we want.

Declutter everything and anything you’re leaving behind in 2023, clear the space for all the good things you want to be, do and experience. Future You will thank you for it!

Hey there, and welcome back to the Fun Business Fun Money podcast! I’m your host, Deirdre Amies.

A quick one for you today, because if you’re listening in real time we’re in that awkward week between Christmas and New Year, where a lot of entrepreneurs are wondering what on earth they could or should be doing.

On one hand you might be feeling the pull to keep working because thats the habit you’ve created for yourself. That is me, I can’t help it!

On the other hand, you might feel guilty about working when everyone else is having time off and you ‘should’ be relaxing and spending time with them. And thats me too! A bit of both worlds.

There’s no right answer here, only what works best for you. What really matters is how you handle it.

 

If nothing else, remember this…

What I want you to remember as we go into 2024 with all the goals, expectations and ideas is this one simple thing…

 

Life is too short for bad coffee, crappy friends, and anything that makes you unhappy.

 

Obviously those are things that are important to ME, great coffee, great friends and feeling inspired and happy. You may have a different view on some – perhaps bad WINE is more your thing! Life is too short for bad wine for sure!

 

What can you let go of in 2023?

My point is this is a perfect time to look around and decide what you’re NOT taking with you into 2024. What can you let go of in 2023?

If Future You were to knock on your door today, what would they guide you to let go of so you can become that amazing future version of yourself? Life is too short to faff about with things that just don’t matter.

 

Declutter to create space for fresh energy

My hot tip for you at this time of year is to declutter the shizz out of your life, business and every single thing you can think of. Let it go, leave it behind in 2023.

I’m talking your physical space – if your desk is a mess of papers and half empty cups, clean it up! I bet Future You would be a lot more organised than Present You is, so step into that kind of energy NOW. If thats the one thing you do, Future You will thank you for it!

That also has a flow on effect to clearing up your mental space as well – if you’re not distracted by physical mess, you’ve got a whole lot more brain space for creating, innovating and shooting for the stars.

 

Bring fresh energy to your digital world too

Don’t overlook the digital stuff either – how does your desktop screen look? Yeah, if its a bit messy, clean it up, delete stuff you don’t need any more.

How far will you go for something great?

Here’s a very important question to ask yourself as we go into a new year… how far are you willing to go for something great, over something convenient and crappy?

 

Bring fresh energy to your Circle of Influence

This also applies to people as well as physical things. Crappy friends really suck. You know the ones I mean – they complain about everything, they’re happy when you’re down, and they’ll do whatever it takes to keep you small.  It shows up in business associates, networking groups, co-workers and bosses too.

Who are your Circle of Influence? The people that love and support you no matter what? Those are the ones to carry forward into 2024.

They’re your ‘inner circle’, your “Got your back girlfriend!” kind of people. They pick you up when you’re down, they cheer you on when you’re doing great and smashing your goals.

I have a VERY small inner circle that I’m in contact with almost every day. We cheer each other on and dust each other off when things go sideways.

Outside of that is pretty much everyone else, which includes a lot of family.

 

FUN FACT: you don’t have to include family in every aspect of your life or business.

Not everyone will understand your inability to switch off. You’ll sense or outright be told their opinions about what you ‘should’ or shouldn’t be doing this week.

Not everyone will understand a word that comes out of your mouth when they ask you about your business!

And not everyone wants to know to be honest, they’re simply asking because its the polite thing to do.

They’ll ask awkward questions and imply you should just ‘get a job’ like everyone else. This is the time of year that we’re forced to spend time with those people.

Make sure you’ve got some conversation diverters in your mental tool box, things you’ve thought about beforehand. You need answers you can give and topics you can change to when things get uncomfortable.

Who are the people – whether you’ve met them in real life or have some connection with online – that have had the greatest influence on you through 2023?
